Cwmcarn After a lot of farting around trying to find the place (improve those bloody road signs) we are expecting big things from Cwmcarn.
The
first section is a short climb, instantly followed by some great singletrack sweeping
through the woods. Exiting at the car park you enter another wooded section that
is some of the best singletrack climbing I have seen. Much more interesting than
all that boring fire road stuff.
The
sections are short and sharp now as you gradually climb up the side of the mountain.
Once over the peak Airstream is a great section that we enjoyed so much we returned
up the short cut (fire road) and repeated. From here there is just more and more of the
stuff. On and on it goes, each section seemingly better than the last. The final
section is awesome as you cut across the open side of the mountain. You try to
concentrate on the 18-inch wide trail in front of you and ignore the fucking big
drop to your left. Everyone
is babbling with an adrenalin rush as you exit into the car park. This has definitely
been the best trail of the weekend and only 2 hours from Surrey (well, we were
doing a ton most of the way). We are already thinking of a day trip to return
soon. If you live in the South and you haven't been
to Cwmcarn yet this is a must. Don't waste time thinking about it - just do it! The
smell of GT85 hangs heavy in the air as Huey prepares
himself for the journey ahead with a look of deep concentration Steve Huey
