Friday 6th July 2007

Decided in the spur of the moment to drop into Trafalgar Square after work for the opening ceremony of the Tour de France. I was the only punter in a suit in a packed square but the atmosphere was great, really exciting.

Saturday 7th July 2007

The prologue of the Tour de France is in London and I go along on my own to watc hthe racing and soak up more of that unique atmosphere. Saw Cas and Luca across the road but met up with Elliot for a good old chinwag. walked round most of the circuit on my own before the racing finished when I made my way to the pub to see Elliot again plus Will and Marco and various members of Addington cycle club.

Loads of pictures of the Tour de France prologue here

8th July 2007

Overtaken by Tour de France fever Elliot and I decide to ride do a road ride down to somewhere in Kent, watch the TDF flash by, and then ride back to my house. at least, that was the plan.

We head off for somewhere between Tonbridge and Royal Tunbridge Wells; a category 4 climb that wont prove difficult for le peloton but might at least spread them out a bit.

ETA for the tour to arrive there is 1.09pm at the latest so we have a chance to get there. The caravan gets there at 11:36 a.m. but i got my share of tacky shite last year!

Due to two er 'detours' one on the way there and one on the way back, Elliot and I covered over 80 miles and i now have a roadie tan on my arms.

Good day, saw David that used to ride with me way back, i think i saw/ran over twiglet monster we went ridin with a coupla months ago and saw David Millar in the break before he got dropped. Also bumped into Marco and a big contingent of Addiscombe CC boys and watched the finish in a pub with them.

Date: 21st July 2007
Riders: Richard, Cas and Norton
London to Brighton
Weather: 24.0°C

So a work mate was asking if i have ever done L2B.

Nah, i said, if i want to ride 60 miles i just go and do it without worrying about registering 6 months in advance, getting sponshorship or having 40,000 other eejuts on the road with me.

So how about this Saturday then, want to ride to Brighton?

Sounds good I say.

So this weekend, Saturday 21st July the three of us did the L2B ride, starting from Clapham and following the standard route.
