7th March 2004 Richard,Keef and Mark - Epsom_Downs_to_Box_Hill

It's the first time since December that I have seen Mark and haven't ridden with Keef since January.

After the freeride exertions of last_month it's back to some great XC riding. It's a fast spin across Headley_Heath to Box_Hill then after a cuppa at the NT Cafe we take the fast descent to Juniper Hill and return via Stane_Street.

A light shower last night has left the ground very muddy in places. It's only towards the end of the ride that my lack of miles recently begins to show as I fall behind the XC whippets but it's another great ride.

11th March 2004

Huey has sent us some lovely pix of one of the dialled_bikes prince_albert prototypes that he is testing.

Now you can tell from the photos that this bike has been lovingly built. As usual, click on any of the pictures to enlarge for a closer look.

Here's the short skinny on the build:

  • New top seals, wipers and oil in Rock Shox Psylos. Bottom bolts swapped to stop leaks.
  • Regreased XTR SPDs
  • Factory refurbished Hope DH4 disc brakes (albeit with stripped thread in caliper) and new hoses
  • WTB Grease Guard headset - watch this space for compliments/complaints
    * New Race Face Evolve XC b/bkt (book now open for longevity bets)
  • Final cockpit arrangements TBC
  • Frame weight (medium/17.5") 5lb 8.75oz,
  • Full build 30.5lbs

14th March 2004 Richard, Paul and Gary - Pitch_Hill

Seem's like everywhere I go at the moment I am seeing Prince_Albert! Last_month it was Neil and his Chocolate Brown PA at Chicksands and last_week it was Huey with his white model. This week it's Gary who I last rode with on the shortest_day of 2003 and has swapped his On-one for one of Mike's finest...

I had been planning to revisit the route that Mike_W from STW showed us at the end of January that covers the free-draining hidden trails of Pitch_Hill. However, after starting well I soon got lost and it turned into an XC ride through a muddy morass of bridleways that are suffering from too much recent rain.

After many references to the map we find our way back to Peaslake for a cuppa and an early finish for the day.
