21st August - No updates for a while as I have just returned from 3 weeks in France so you will have to sit through my holiday snaps...

Two weeks into the holiday and no exercise combined with stuffing my face means I have more spare tyres than your local bike shop. Desperate to get back in the saddle I try my luck on a cheap exercise bike

Almost the end of the holiday but at last I find a bike I can ride. A cheap bike with canti brakes that were virtually non-existent but at least I managed to get off road and get a few miles under my belt. I soon realise why I spent all that money on padded shorts, a wicking top, bladder, full suspension etc.

26th August Richard, Keef and Mike – The Big 8

A surprise appearance from Mike who hasn’t been seen since the middle of May. I need a route I know to get me back in the swing of things and we set off on the big 8. It isn’t long before Mike is going backwards however this is due to his rear disc brake locking on rather than any fitness levels. After prising the cylinder back into place we continue with Mike relying on the front brake only.

After losing our way and a bit of roadwork we make it to the steep chalky descent at Colley Hill. At the foot, another running repair is needed on the disc brake and Keef bleeds the brake to let off some pressure. This does the trick and we are off again.

The rest of the ride is uneventful but gives me a good workout for my first outing since the holiday.

This is an mtb-idle production
