April 2000

Richard, David, Shavey, Damon, Nigel, Martyn, Gary and Leandro – The North Downs Way nr Wye, Ashford, Kent

It had rained for about 2 months solid before we went, and we basically rode 20 miles through water and mud. Totally exhausting.

Group Fog : A great photo opportunity takes our minds off the fact that we are totally lost in the fog!

Left to right: David, Nigel, Damon, Gary, Leandro, Shavey and me at the front in the fetching green jacket

New Boy David is sent on to scout which bits of water the rest of us should ride around!

David is on his steel framed Scott with the tastefully coloured RST forks and headset

Nigel was a ‘friend of a friend’ and had been told that it would be a nice day out enjoying the countryside. He was on a bike that looked like it had never been ridden before and hated it from start to finish.

Nigel looking fed up. This was taken just after he had taken a fall. I think he sold his bike shortly afterwards!

Group Bluebell Dance : Shavey persuades the boys to recreate the pagan ritual of dancing in the bluebells, but they decline to follow tradition by doing it naked!

Left to right: David, Damon (hidden), Gary, Nigel, me, Shavey and Leandro

This beautiful scenery was only slightly spoilt by the burnt out fiesta we had passed 100 yards further back

More bluebells only spoilt by a sweaty David being in the picture

August 2000

Encouraged by summer weather I went out for an evening ride with David and his mate Keith. Went to Belmont_Downs and Track_40.

The SIS rear derailleur was playing up (chain grinding, gears jumping) and even an old geezer of about 70 on a bike with a basket on the front took the piss out of me recommending I get a Sturmey Archer. Anyway, it was great fun, and we all agreed we would go out every week for the rest of the summer.

Oh well, best intentions and all that, you know how it is, we didn’t go out again for four_months

This is an mtb-idle production
