I didn't make it out this weekend. A combination of tired legs and too many jobs to do at home kept me in. However, Sam and Grant were out in the sun getting it on slope stylee with some sick air, dude.
Ok, that's enough bullshit, here's some great pics all taken by Sam on his camera that shows as well as outriding his old man he is also doing pretty well in the photography stakes too!
Sam and Grant hooked up with Mikeyb and his mate. Mikey is another young, local rider who contacted me via the site a few months ago.
These pic's show that to get out and ride you don't need all the latest, most expensive kit, all you need is a pair of jeans, two wheels and some attitude.
(but wear a helmet too please guys)...

The weathermen are telling me in the newspapers this week that we are in the middle of the worst drought in 100 years. In that case, why has it pissed down with rain on my last 3 rides?
To help us answer this, we bought along our very own 'weatherman' - another Richard from Yorkshire who seems to attract the rain to all his rides.
We are training for the forthcoming dialled bikes Rough Ride and follow the same killer loop as a month ago, although the going is much tougher as the trails are really gloopy having soaked up a few days rain already and we are all covered in mud.
But the riding is good and some great company. Even with the shock of bumping into a herd of llamas doesn't distract us and we finish 25 miles in a much quicker time than the same route in April.
After burgers/bacon rolls and chips at Newlands Corner 'caff' and with our training schedule in mind we head out on another 10 mile loop. This takes us to some new areas and especially through Blackheath - an outstandingly beautiful area with a very different feel to it than the rest of the North Downs.
There is then a monster climb up a brutal, slippery, chalky hill and I resort to pushing for most of the way before rejoining the North Downs way and back to the car park.
A well deserved pint of Guiness in Shere village finishes me off for the day and I am dozing in the comfort of a heated seat as Cas drives me back home. Yet another in our series of fantastic rides.

The final training ride before the Rough Ride next week. The 3 of us head out early for the Big 8 plus a few more miles at the end.
There are loads of other riders, horses and parents pushing buggies and the trails are fairly crowded but we keep up a great pace with the first stop at the NT Cafe at Reigate Hill. Onwards past the boggy mess before the Pfizer building and in to Walton-on-the-Hill where we bump into Steve, an in-law who we haven't seen out on the trails since May 2002.
We deviate to the left down the side of Coral Bazaar which is a really nice downhill that again, I haven't ridden for 3 or 4 years and up towards Headley Heath where we turn right and follow the Epsom Downs short route that takes in 'The Wall' return to Epsom Downs.
The Big 8 is 25 miles for me, door to door and we must have covered an extra 5 mile loop to get home so it's another decent run out and all we need now is a dry week to leave the trails in tip-top condition.
